Dive Deep

It’s true that at times I get so focused on the negative aspects of life and I fixate on how far away I am from my “dream life” that I forget to appreciate the journey that I’m on and the life that I have. As for the regrets, mistakes, and other unpleasantness from my past… replaying those events over and over in my head only serves to punish myself and keep me from my goals.

Regardless of whether or not things are perfect, the only way to truly live life is to dive in head first and make the most of what you have. I have a million passions and interests that fulfill and push me and many people in my life who love and support me. I can choose to fill each day and each moment with the things that will build the life that I want– the life that will ultimately overshadow the little things that bring me down from time to time.

All I need to focus on is the reality that today is another beautiful day, filled with possibility and potential.

Vertical Stripes, Ballet Dancers, Vegan Eats, and Reflections…

It’s been a while since I’ve managed to post anything here. I’m very sorry. I’ve been keeping myself busy this month participating in #VEDA 2013 or Vlog Every Day in August. It’s been so rewarding and confidence building to just put myself out there and feel accepted and embraced by others. It’s such a fun and supportive community.

I’ve also been doing a lot more juicing lately and I’m feeling so good about it. Adding in all the juice during the last month has really made a huge difference in how my body feels. I just love how clean and healthy it makes me feel to be eating as many raw fruits and veggies as possible. Because of this, I’ve been spending quite a bit of time discovering new recipe ideas for me to try out. Stay tuned for some more awesome vegan recipes coming up soon!

Here are a few of the things I’ve been inspired by lately. What kinds of things are you inspired by?

In the moment.

Our brains set us up for disappointment. It’s that “the grass is always greener” philosophy that does me in. I’ve made so many choices in my life based on the idea that if only I could get away from whatever situation I was in and escape to the infinitely brighter and happier future ahead of me that THAT would make the difference in my happiness.  I’ve come to the point in my recent reflections where I recognize that happiness isn’t around the corner or on the other side of the fence, it’s always been right here, waiting for me to grasp it. I’m like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. I just need to click my heels and chant “there’s no place like home” :).

I think what gets me is not necessarily living in the moment. I find myself looking to the future so often. Instead of looking at myself in the mirror and loving what I see and what I am, so often I put myself down by thinking things like, “I’ll be much happier when I reach my goal weight” or “if only my hair was longer, then I would be beautiful” or any one of the million things about me that aren’t up to perfection. The reality is that I’ve been much closer to my goal weight before and I’ve had much longer hair and neither of those things have been the key to my happiness.

I’ve been watching a really awesome series of Ted Talks recently, including the one I posted above, and I feel really uplifted and inspired by them. The rest can be found in the series “Ted Talks: Life Hacks” on Netflix. Super good stuff. I feel like they’re helping me to appreciate what I have now and not worry about the future as much. All that stress and anxiety really isn’t any fun and it’s encouraging to know that I don’t have to feel that way. I’d much rather be happier.

Watkins Glen

When I first saw this picture, I thought it was fake! How cool is it that Watkins Glen is a real place? Another reason I need to visit New York. 🙂
