Fall Bucket List

As of Tuesday, September 23, it’s officially Fall. Once again, I’m reminded by the fact that time really does fly by. Just a second ago it turned into summer and I’m afraid that many of the traditional summer experiences have passed me by. Even the pool at our apartments is all of the sudden closed! Did I really go swimming only one time? C’est la vie… no sense in looking back, so onward we must go! You know that saying, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”? I think that must apply to many things in life, and taking advantage of the season while it’s here has got to be one of them. Before this Autumn season gets away from me, these are the things I refuse to miss out on. Autumn Leaves 1

Make time to find and play in a gargantuan pile of leaves. This was by far my favorite memory of last Fall. This needs to be a recurring tradition.

Make a scarf. My first DIY projects as a child involved crocheting scarves and it’s been far too long since I made a more current one. This year I plan to amend that. Maybe something along these lines?? (Source)

Van Gogh Pumpkin

Carve a Pumpkin. Last year I was working the 1-10 shift so I missed out on the family pumpkin carving night. Whether I make it to the family event, or I turn pumpkin carving into a fun date night for Jordan and I, it’s happening. And soon. I could totally see Jordan putting in all the meticulous detailed work to make something ridiculous like this AMAZING pumpkin.

Trio BarsRoast the seeds from said pumpkin and make trio bars. My sister in law made these scrumptious trio bars last year and it’s been on my list of projects ever since.

Finish “The Lord of the Rings.” The movie series has long been one of my favorites, but quite embarrassingly, until now I’ve never gotten around to actually reading the books for myself. Jordan and I are already a decent way through the first book and I’m absolutely in love. Can’t believe that I’ve waited this long to sink my teeth into these books.

Participate in our local Turkey Trot. I have a family full of runners and they run in this race every year. Although I usually run the mile at the Cable Bridge Run in the middle of December, I usually come up with some excuse not to run this one. Not this year though. Image Source

I have a feeling this is going to be a delightful season. 🙂

The lovely Autumn leaves down the street

Jordan ran off to go study this afternoon, but got sidetracked by some beautiful fallen leaves. They were  blowing about by the wind and the fence of the nearby elementary school provided an excellent catch for what came to be a massive pile of lovely leaves. Jordan came back to grab me for a spontaneous picture session. It was such a sweet thing to do. Jordan knows me all to well… It was the perfect thing to brighten up my day. And it was so much fun to play around in all that!

Autumn Leaves 3I have a growing list of posts that I’m behind on for the blog… I actually have been up to a few things in the last few weeks that I’ve planned posts for. Good blogging intentions only get you so far though eh? Sometimes I blog because I want to keep a running scrapbook of the “goings on” in my life, and other times like now I feel utterly anxious to post. Probably because these pictures were such a fun, spur of the moment thing that it really made my day special.  And of course, I think it’s appropriate that I use this opportunity to take a second to share what’s been going on with me lately.

Autumn Leaves 4Autumn Leaves 2Lately, I have been able to do a little cooking and have added a few recipes to my collection, which is always great fun for me. However, I still haven’t managed to give pumpkin spice a try yet. This afternoon, Becky told me I could use her leftover Halloween pumpkins for some experimenting, so I suppose I have no excuses left! I gotta get on it while those pumpkins are still good!

Paying for college out-of-pocket really gets expensive fast, as I’m sure many of you know. Just when I think I’ll have a break from tuition payments, another one is due. But I do seem to have come across a bit of luck and I’ve been able to go from part-time to full-time at my job! More hours=More money! Sometimes thinking about adding all those extra hours feels like I’m just getting robbed of my creative time, but for the moment at least, I’m looking at it in a different way. After all, having extra hours in your life is no guarantee of getting the things done that you want. Ever heard of the saying, “Need something done? Ask a busy person.”? Being as productive as possible during my days seems like living the dream in at least one respect. So my goal is to embrace my new schedule. 🙂

Jordan and I are hoping to move to Seattle after this school year. We still have a lot of work to do to make that happen, but every day I want it more and more. I think I’m a big-city girl at heart and I can’t wait to get over there and experience that kind of life for myself. I can’t believe that it’s November already. That possibility is getting more real with every day that passes. And hey, getting full-time employment is a huge step in the right direction towards making that dream a reality.

I gotta say I’m feeling pretty happy right now. Today has been a very lovely reminder that I’ve got a pretty great little life. 🙂

Pumpkin Spice, Witches, and the Colors of Autumn

The number one reason Fall is my favorite season of the year has to be the changing colors of the trees. I love the trees lining the streets that are green throughout Spring and Summer then seemingly all of the sudden turn to deep shades of orange and red. I can’t wait for that golden week or two towards the beginning of December when there are huge piles of leaves everywhere. Last year we got some fun family pictures with fallen leaves, but they will certainly need to be outdone this year.

I stumbled on this gorgeous shot while I was looking around for some ideas for my Halloween costume this year. I was thinking maybe I’d do something along the lines of a witch… but we shall see. Anyway, check out this deviantart user AnitaAnti… I absolutely adore her photography style.

This year I’m looking to get a head start on meal ideas for Thanksgiving. I’m ready to start thinking about Thanksgiving dinner in a new way and not be contained by traditional concepts of it. I’m thinking about maybe trying out Vegan Eggplant Parmesan. I’m hoping to try out several recipes between now and then to get the meal all figured out. And with all the pumpkins we’ve got around the house, I really want to try out some pumpkin spice recipes. If it tastes as good as it looks, Thanksgiving dessert can’t come soon enough.

Another reason I’m particularly excited for the Fall season this year is Football! I’ve really only ever watched football on Superbowl Sunday, and let’s be honest, I mostly showed up for the party and didn’t really pay much attention to the game. Last year I watched a couple of Seahawks games during the playoffs and I seem to have caught the football just enough to want to start figuring out the game. I’m still a long way away from really understanding the various plays and positions on the field. I barely know who Russell Wilson is! This photo of Richard Sherman was just too epic to resist… maybe if I watch enough football this year, someday soon I’ll really understand what it is that he brings to the team. 🙂

Speaking of which… I’ve got a game to go watch!
