Dive Deep

It’s true that at times I get so focused on the negative aspects of life and I fixate on how far away I am from my “dream life” that I forget to appreciate the journey that I’m on and the life that I have. As for the regrets, mistakes, and other unpleasantness from my past… replaying those events over and over in my head only serves to punish myself and keep me from my goals.

Regardless of whether or not things are perfect, the only way to truly live life is to dive in head first and make the most of what you have. I have a million passions and interests that fulfill and push me and many people in my life who love and support me. I can choose to fill each day and each moment with the things that will build the life that I want– the life that will ultimately overshadow the little things that bring me down from time to time.

All I need to focus on is the reality that today is another beautiful day, filled with possibility and potential.

Pumpkin Spice, Witches, and the Colors of Autumn

The number one reason Fall is my favorite season of the year has to be the changing colors of the trees. I love the trees lining the streets that are green throughout Spring and Summer then seemingly all of the sudden turn to deep shades of orange and red. I can’t wait for that golden week or two towards the beginning of December when there are huge piles of leaves everywhere. Last year we got some fun family pictures with fallen leaves, but they will certainly need to be outdone this year.

I stumbled on this gorgeous shot while I was looking around for some ideas for my Halloween costume this year. I was thinking maybe I’d do something along the lines of a witch… but we shall see. Anyway, check out this deviantart user AnitaAnti… I absolutely adore her photography style.

This year I’m looking to get a head start on meal ideas for Thanksgiving. I’m ready to start thinking about Thanksgiving dinner in a new way and not be contained by traditional concepts of it. I’m thinking about maybe trying out Vegan Eggplant Parmesan. I’m hoping to try out several recipes between now and then to get the meal all figured out. And with all the pumpkins we’ve got around the house, I really want to try out some pumpkin spice recipes. If it tastes as good as it looks, Thanksgiving dessert can’t come soon enough.

Another reason I’m particularly excited for the Fall season this year is Football! I’ve really only ever watched football on Superbowl Sunday, and let’s be honest, I mostly showed up for the party and didn’t really pay much attention to the game. Last year I watched a couple of Seahawks games during the playoffs and I seem to have caught the football just enough to want to start figuring out the game. I’m still a long way away from really understanding the various plays and positions on the field. I barely know who Russell Wilson is! This photo of Richard Sherman was just too epic to resist… maybe if I watch enough football this year, someday soon I’ll really understand what it is that he brings to the team. 🙂

Speaking of which… I’ve got a game to go watch!

Three Months Off

Today’s topic for BLOGTEMBER!!! If you could take three months off from your current life and do anything in the world, what would you do?

Let’s just say that money is no object and I have a private plane that can take me anywhere. I’m going on vacation and I’m gonna see some stuff.

On my 3 months off with an unlimited budget, I’d see as many things as I could. And yes, I would see all the classic touristy things that are out there in the world and hopefully a few more. There are just too many great things out there that I hope to be able to see for myself. With my limited perspective of the world sometimes it’s hard to believer that these places actually exist outside of a fantasy. Hopefully someday I’ll be able to see a few and change that fantasy to a reality. In the mean time, luckily the internet has so graciously provided me with gorgeous photographic reminders of what I’m missing out on. 🙂

Vertical Stripes, Ballet Dancers, Vegan Eats, and Reflections…

It’s been a while since I’ve managed to post anything here. I’m very sorry. I’ve been keeping myself busy this month participating in #VEDA 2013 or Vlog Every Day in August. It’s been so rewarding and confidence building to just put myself out there and feel accepted and embraced by others. It’s such a fun and supportive community.

I’ve also been doing a lot more juicing lately and I’m feeling so good about it. Adding in all the juice during the last month has really made a huge difference in how my body feels. I just love how clean and healthy it makes me feel to be eating as many raw fruits and veggies as possible. Because of this, I’ve been spending quite a bit of time discovering new recipe ideas for me to try out. Stay tuned for some more awesome vegan recipes coming up soon!

Here are a few of the things I’ve been inspired by lately. What kinds of things are you inspired by?

Dreamy San Francisco Fog

Adrift from Simon Christen on Vimeo.

I love the fog so much. I find the low rolling clouds to be mysterious and romantic at the same time. I remember being a little girl and experiencing fog for the first time. I remember letting my imagination go wild and inventing stories of high flying adventures and intriguing mysteries. The fog brings out that spirit in me still and it is certainly one draw that I have to San Francisco. I dream of a future where I can be personally greeted every morning by these ethereal waves.

Met Gala 2013

This would be my first year checking out these dresses from the Met Gala, but I’m convinced that this is the fashion event of the year. Screw the oscars, these dresses are amazing!

“I am gay on the outside, especially among my own folk (I count Poles my own); but inside something gnaws at me; some presentiment, anxiety, dreams – or sleeplessness – melancholy, indifference – desire for life, and the next instant, desire for death; some kind of sweet peace, some kind of numbness, absent-mindedness…”

“How strange! This bed on which I shall lie has been slept on by more than one dying man, but today it does not repel me! Who knows what corpses have lain on it and for how long? But is a corpse any worse than I? A corpse too knows nothing of its father, mother or sisters or Titus. Nor has a corpse a sweetheart. A corpse, too, is pale, like me. A corpse is cold, just as I am cold and indifferent to everything. A corpse has ceased to live, and I too have had enough of life…. Why do we live on through this wretched life which only devours us and serves to turn us into corpses? The clocks in the Stuttgart belfries strike the midnight hour. Oh how many people have become corpses at this moment! Mothers have been torn from their children, children from their mothers – how many plans have come to nothing, how much sorrow has sprung from these depths, and how much relief!… Virtue and vice have come in the end to the same thing! It seems that to die is man’s finest action – and what might be his worst? To be born, since that is the exact opposite of his best deed. It is therefore right of me to be angry that I was ever born into this world! Why was I not prevented from remaining in a world where I am utterly useless? What good can my existence bring to anyone? … But wait, wait! What’s this? Tears? How long it is since they flowed! How is this, seeing that an arid melancholy has held me for so long in its grip? How good it feels – and sorrowful. Sad but kindly tears! What a strange emotion! Sad but blessed. It is not good for one to be sad, and yet how pleasant it is – a strange state…”

“Some people live in cages with bars built from their own fears and doubts. Some people live in cages with bars built from other people’s fears and doubts; their parents, their friends, their brothers and sisters, their families. Some people live in cages with bars built from the choices others made for them, the circumstances other people imposed upon them. And some people break free.”
