Hard to believe it has already been six years…

Now that’s an understatement! Six whole years…. jeez louise! Only recently have I realized how young we were when we married and how much we’ve grown together ever since. Six years later, I love him even more now than I did when we married. It’s a partnership I cherish more than anything else in my life.

To celebrate, we went up to the mountains for the weekend. Even though we had the budget of starving college students, it doesn’t cost much to get out and enjoy the refreshing air of the woods in the mountains, so that’s exactly what we did up at Clear Lake.

On the drive up, we started reading The Lord of the Rings, but almost couldn’t get past the first few pages. We opened up the book right from the Prologue and I realized exactly why I’d been avoiding the book for so long. That prologue reads like the bible or a textbook on the history of Hobbits. Perhaps I’ll be able to go back and read the prologue at some point, but we had no choice but to skip it and try to read from where the actual story begins. I’m so glad we did–I was hooked almost instantly!

Sometimes the pleasures in life really are quite simple. We had this little valley completely to ourselves all day. Kinda makes a girl think about living out in the country or in the woods on a permanent basis. It’s like the air just tastes better, it’s more peaceful, and there’s beauty everywhere you look. If nothing else, it sure was nice to experience for a weekend.

We really have way too much fun…

Yep, we certainly are a couple of goof balls 🙂

Joe’s Stradivarius Replica

My brother is pretty much the most talented person I’ve ever known, period.

He’s only been studying music for a couple years, and already in that time he’s made more progress than most people make in a lifetime. And he makes it look so easy. He’s got a true passion for the art and his enthusiasm is absolutely contagious. He’d been working on his same starter violin for the last year and a half, but he’d outgrown it a LONG time ago. It was definitely time for an upgrade. After a few months of searching for a violin that would suit him, he finally stumbled upon this Stradivarius Replica made in 1880. Its gorgeous dark tone beautifully shows off his ever advancing technique and musical subtleties.

I couldn’t be happier for him. And he was just over the moon in love with his new instrument.

We had to do a photo shoot. 🙂

Five years ♥

Last weekend, Jordan and I reached the 5 year milestone in our marriage! Wow. It really is crazy to realize that 5 years have gone by since that day we made vows to each other.

This year, we are very poor college students and for right now, I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Even though we didn’t have much in the way of dollars to contribute to this year’s anniversary celebration, and it was sandwiched between two separate trips to the coast with family and friends, we wanted to do something special for hitting the 5 year mark in our marriage.

Jordan and I have been following a Vegan diet for some time now, but living in a small town like we do, we’re limited to our own culinary concoctions for our meals. And although I truly love the meals that we’ve been creating together, some fresh inspiration never hurt anyone. So, we decided to take the opportunity on our way to the Coast and stop in at a REAL Vegan restaurant in Portland. Since we’re not typically afforded the luxury of actually ordering meals directly off of a menu where we live, this was a real treat.

Left: BBQ Plate- whiskey ginger bbq soy curls, served with mac and cheese, southern style collards, smoky black eyed peas, and spicy corn bread with apple butter
Right: Live Nachos- spicy live chips, topped with nacho cheese sauce, pecan chorizo, diced avocado, cashew sour cream, red onion, tomato, scallion and cilantro, with a lime wedge

Apparently, I’m a big city girl at heart. Every time I venture to a larger city that can actually support a Vegan community, I feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven. Our trip to the Blossoming Lotus was no exception. In fact, I’d venture to say this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

I’m so intrigued by the different combinations they used and inspired to get my butt in the kitchen for some experimenting! It was absolutely delicious.  Now I just can’t wait to live in a place where I don’t have to wait for the rare special occasion to be treated like this!

When we got married, neither of us had much in the way of experience in attending weddings so we didn’t necessarily know what we wanted our wedding celebration to be like. What we got was lovely, but I’ve often looked back and thought about how I would do things differently. I think I would like to have had a more intimate ceremony with my closest friends and family, that way I’d be able to throw a real party and celebrate with the people that really matter most to me.

Since I don’t plan on having any do-overs on my wedding, sometimes I fantasize about having a do-over in a different kind of way, by taking the opportunity to renew those wedding vows and celebrate our continued love and commitment to each other. I had a little hope that when the 5 year anniversary came around that maybe we could use that occasion to have a little celebration. Even though that wasn’t in the cards for this anniversary, renewing my vows is something that I would like to do at some point.

Sometimes 5 years ago seems like yesterday, and other times it seems like a lifetime ago; in fact, most times it feels like a lifetime ago. I sometimes think about how much I’ve grown up in the last 5 years. The person that I am today is so different from the person that made those promises and therefore, I think it’s very appropriate to mark the passage of time.

So instead of a public vow renewal ceremony, I’d like to take this opportunity right now to publicly declare my adoration for the love of my life.

My Sweet Prince Jordan:

Words simply cannot express the joy I have in experiencing life with you as my partner in crime. There is something truly beautiful about two people choosing to love each other their entire lives. Sometimes I look back at the person I was when I made that choice and I don’t understand how I got so lucky with you. And yet you chose me, and I chose you and I’m so glad that I did.

It’s so crazy to think about how our relationship has grown since that day and that we’ve grown individually as well as a team. I love that we’re stronger together than we ever were apart. Since that day that we promised to love each other for the rest of our lives, my love has only grown deeper for you.

I love that we dream about the future. I love that we push each other to excel. Absolutely no one supports me as much as you do. And I believe in you with all my heart. I’ll keep you forever and always. I love you baby.

My Baby Sis is All Grown Up and Going to College!

Hannah Portrait 1Once upon a time there was a family with 5 daughters who lived on a small dairy farm.

My parents wanted a large family from the start and had hoped for some boys along the way, but after having 5 daughters, they’d almost given up hope that it would ever happen. But the day came that marked an end to an era and my brother Nathan was born, followed by my brother Joseph two years later.

So much of my identity was wrapped up in being one of the 5 Linde girls. And now, all of us Linde girls have grown up. And another end of an era has come. My youngest sister, Hannah, is no longer the little baby of the family anymore. She graduated high school in June and just last week packed up all her stuff and started a new phase in her life away from home. What started out as a family full of girls, is now a family with only two boys.
Hannah Portrait 2The night my parents came home from dropping off Hannah was somewhat of an emotional night for them. I could see in their eyes the intensity of this milestone for my mother and father, who started out their lives together with a plan to have all of us kids when they were young so they could still be young when we all grew up. I could see my mom on the other side of that dream and feeling the weight having crossed such a significant milestone. What a strange thing for a parent to go from a house full of girls to a house full of boys.

Hannah Portrait 3Hannah’s going to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah now. She is the second of the five Linde girls to do so. Now two of my sisters are an entire day’s journey by car away from me. Although I’m ecstatic for my sister, Stephanie, to have a sister in town with her, it’s somewhat of a bittersweet moment because it leaves one less sister for me.

Hannah PortraitThe passage of time is such a scary thing. People just move on with their lives whether you want them to or not. Having my baby sister all grown up and going off to college and making life progress makes me take a closer look into my own progression. Left and right people are just moving on with their lives and sometimes I fear that I’m being left behind. It’s these moments that really put on the pressure for me to make something of myself and get what I want out of life.

I love you so much Hannah! I’m so excited for this new phase in your life!

Jenny’s Wedding Reception

Wedding InviteLet me present my first attempt at a wedding invitation! Apparently when I try new things out, I like to go big. So naturally, I took on one of the most important events in my sister’s life to test my skills…. and you can see the result for yourself over there on the right. I actually quite like it. 🙂

I won’t claim that this idea came entirely from my brain, Jenny and I were inspired by a playbill style wedding invitation that we saw on Pinterest. I did, however, painstakingly put this together in about a day while I was on vacation with the Oregon coast in my periphery. After a lot of trial and error, this is what I came up with.

My parents put on such a nice party for my sister’s wedding reception. It was held at their house. I was in love with how my parents decorated. There were lights everywhere and it felt truly magical. I’m afraid my pictures just don’t do it justice.

All in all, it was such a fun event. I got the opportunity to reconnect with so many people that I hadn’t seen in ages. So many people came out to honor my sister. It was really special.

Jenny and Taylor just before cutting the cake.

Side note: I was told that it’s appropriate during a couple’s engagement to call them “Jenny and Taylor,” but after the wedding they’re supposed to be called, “Taylor and Jenny.” Sorry if I’m not proper enough, but at the end of the day, my sister comes first. I am, however, extremely excited for Taylor to join the fam. 🙂

So precious. 🙂

And with that, I say goodbye to this wedding! It’s OVER! Hahahahaha!

Jenny’s Bridal Shower

bridal shower blogIMG_7103

Now that Jenny is married, it’s probably about time that I put up my post from last week’s bridal shower. It seems like my life has been nothing but Jenny’s wedding for the last week or so at least, so I have a few posts in the works about the goings on related to Jen’s wedding. After that, I promise to take it easy on the Jenny obsession… hahaha.

I did make the above invitation from scratch using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I’ve taken all these Illustrator tutorials and I guess I’m getting a bit more comfortable with the software! I can’t tell you how proud I was of myself for drawing this image. Luckily for me, Illustrator is such a fantastic program that you don’t necessarily have to be good at drawing by hand, but through it you can still produce great drawings. I’m excited for all the Illustrator projects to come…

Anyway, back to the point.

My younger sister, Hannah, had the *cough* honor of throwing this little shin-dig. When I say that, I mean I’ve definitely been there before. It’s one of those things that I’ve been happy to do out of loyalty, but also anxiety ridden over its success.

And naturally, Hannah did a great job. 🙂

One of the games in particular gave me quite a laugh. We were each given an envelope with a mystery man inside and whoever got Jenny’s actual groom got the prize. Unfortunately, I didn’t win this one in the “winning the game” sense, but I did walk away with Matt Damon. Ever since his “Bourne” days, I’ve had a thing for that one….

Jen walked away with quite the haul. Between the bridal shower and the wedding presents, I’m pretty sure they’ve got just about everything a newly married couple and first-time-apartment renters could really need. I’m extremely happy for them to have such a nice start.

Probably my favorite moment of the bridal shower was the lovely gift made from the engagement pictures that I took of Jenny and Taylor. It was so cool to see my small contribution being used for something so cute and crafty. It’s a box that when you remove the lid, the sides fall down, each with three cute papers with pictures of the couple on either side. It was such a creative and inspiring project!

Here’s a lovely picture of the Jenny and our friend, Maura. And not that she doesn’t always look fantastic, but on this particular occasion, she was dressed for a wedding later in the day and looked absolutely stunning. IMG_7112

I’m so happy for my sister. 🙂IMG_7113
